Introduction

Gandaki Medical College Teaching Hospital and Research Centre (GMC) is a health education institution located in Kaski district, Gandaki Province, Nepal. It deals as national priority industry for medical education and health service. The project is founded on its own land and is purely owned by the Nepalese people. The college owns about 204 ropanis of land which satisfies the mandatory requisites of Tribhuwan University that has affiliated the college and professional councils.

The arrangement of infrastructures is made in compliance with the “Guidelines and Infrastructure Directions for Establishment and Operation of Private and Non-Government Health Institutions”, published by Ministry of Health and Population, Government of Nepal.

The college has been providing scholarship to the 10% of total student intake in a year. The students getting scholarship are nominated by Nepal Government based on the merit in the entrance examination.

The college has 550 bed capacity and is located at Prithivi Chowk of Pokhara Metropolitan City. Additional 200 bed will be added within this year. The college has activity of clinical and medical facilities, thus providing excellent health care amenities.

In near future, Gandaki Medical College will also have 400 bedded multi-specialty hospital at Ritthepani, which is about nine kilometers from Pokhara city. GMC aims to be a Centre of excellence in health education and service.

Currently, more than 600 Students are studying at this College. This includes MBBS, BDS, BSc MIT, BMLT, BSc. Nursing, BN, BPH and BPharma. About 40 students are pursuing PG (Post Graduate) in different specialties.

Gandaki Medical College has been bearing social responsibilities to the local and remote community by following measures:

  1. Free Health Camps in collaboration with different institutions in Gandaki Province.
  2. Awareness Programs against communicable & non-communicable diseases.
  3. Emergency treatment during natural disasters (Like Earthquake, landslide, rainstorm, tornado).
  4. Directly observed treatment, short-course (DOTS) service provided to Tuberculosis patients in Hospital area.
  5. Students Welfare Fund for poor patients
  6. Safe Motherhood in collaboration with Government of Nepal
  7. Blood Bank facility in hospital
  8. ECHS Service for Ex-army of India.
  9. Community Health Center (150 Bed), at Helu of Syangja district of Gandaki Province, Nepal.
  10. Health Insurance program in collaboration with Government of Nepal
  11. Dialysis service in collaboration with Government of Nepal
  12. Free treatment to poor patients and minority with recommendation from local government/ government authorities
  13. Treatment of severe diseases (Cancer, Heart, Kidney, Head Injury and Parkinson's disease) in collaboration with Government of Nepal
  14. Free registration for Outpatient department once a month in a year.
  15. Health Science researches in all the medical fields. The researches have been very beneficial to the community and the health authorities for decision making.
